Mark Edward Van Valkenburg

September 12, 1962 — June 22, 2017

Mark Edward Van Valkenburg, age 54, of Jarrettsville, Maryland passed away on June 22, 2017 at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium, Maryland. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, son of Mary Gertrude "Trudy" (Buxbaum) Van Valkenburg of Jarrettsville and the late Wayne Philip Van Valkenburg. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he worked in the security alarm industry for many years before transferring to Verizon for 14 years. Over the past 3 years, he was a manufacturer's rep for Bosch Security Systems at Chesapeake Marketing Associates, Inc. He loved his work family and excelled in his position there. Mark received the Bosch Rep Excellence Award - North America for 2016 for outstanding sales performance. He enjoyed golf, fishing, all types of technology, and Civil War History. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and many cherished vacations to Canaan Valley, West Virginia. He was very touched by the love and support of his church family at William Watters Memorial United Methodist Church. Nothing gave him greater joy than the pride he felt for his two sons.

Mark is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Lori (Phillips) Van Valkenburg; sons, Michael J. Steinmiller and Samuel L. Van Valkenburg, both of Jarrettsville; father in law Francis S. Phillips of Forest Hill, and the late Mary Archer Phillips; sister, Karen K. Mann and husband, James, of Jarrettsville; brother in law Robert F. Phillips of Forest Hill; brother in law David B. Phillips and wife Patty of Forest Hill; many nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.

Pallbearers include Michael Steinmiller, Samuel Van Valkenburg, James Mann, Robert Phillips, David Phillips, Charles Herr, Steve Mixter and Steve Pennington.
