Marilyn Bending

February 21, 1932 — December 26, 2020

Marilyn Bending, age 88, of Bel Air, Maryland passed away on December 26, 2020 at her home. Born in Newark, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Wayne and Elaine Patchen and wife of the late Bruce Bending. She lived in Harford County for 50 years.

Marilyn loved animals and rescued many over her lifetime. For more than 40 years, she volunteered at Fallston General Hospital and Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. Gardening was one of Marilyn’s passions, and she belonged to the Friendship Garden Club. In her late 40’s, she finally conquered her fear of water and learned to swim. She enjoyed water aerobics classes at Harford Community College.

Marilyn is survived by her two daughters; Gail Bending and Kathy Woodward; grandchildren; Shawn Sinnott, Erin and Mikayla Woodward, Derek Roberts, and Kaylin Bending. Shawn lived with her and fulfilled his promise that she would spend her final days in her home. She was preceded in death by her daughter Linda Roberts.

Marilyn will be remembered for her infectious laugh and positive outlook, as well as her red hair and always wearing a hat. She kept her family close, spending summer vacations in the Poconos, and playing Old Maid with her grandchildren. Early in her career, Marilyn worked at the Federal Reserve Bank, but like many women at the time, gave up her job when she started her family. As much as she loved the bank, she loved being a mother even more.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to PAWS (Puppies Are Worth Saving) at 727 Pyle Road, Forest Hill, MD 21050.
