Marian Joyce Sweeney, local business woman, died peacefully on December 19, 2010 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Mr. James Patrick Sweeney, her daughter Dr. Dawn Lindsay, her grandson Mr. James Gregory Stonesifer and many nieces and nephews.
Marian was born to Amos Raymond and Martha Estelle Hinkle in Hazelton,
Pennsylvania. She was one of five siblings, all who preceded her in death. In addition, her first child Patricia Gayla Sweeney met the Lord on October 25, 1975.
Marian married James Sweeney on September 25, 1948 and moved to Maryland in 1951. A devoted wife and loving mother, Marian worked many jobs supporting her husband as he worked to attain and complete his master's degree. Jim pursued his dream of being a teacher in order to support his wife and family.
Once Jim attained a job as a high school chemistry teacher, she pursued her dream to become one of the few women in an executive business position. Marian began taking courses at the McCann School of Business, Loyola College, Johns Hopkins University, and The Institute of Personnel Psychology, and soon found her dream also came true. A strong supporter of women and education, she empowered many other women to also attain their dream.
Marian was Controller of Northern Acceptance Corporation (NAC) for over 22 years until which time the company was sold. Following her executive role with NAC, she worked full time for Triple A Insurance and began selling real estate on a part time basis. Her love of helping people find their dream home resulted in over 30 years as an accomplished and trusted realtor.
Following the burial, a reception will be held at Fallston United Methodist Church.
