Marguerite Longley Heuman

January 31, 1918 — April 8, 2021

Marguerite Longley Heuman was born in a blizzard on January 31, 1918 in a cottage on her Grandfather Longley’s Farm on the Bush River. She was the 3rd of 6 children who all preceded her in death. They were from oldest to youngest Bernard Longley, Robert Longley, Helen Preston, Tom Longley and Alice Couch. From the beginning Marge was a force of nature to be reckoned with, strong willed and determined she lived a joyful and full life. She passed away at her home in Bel Air, on April 8, 2021. Marguerite was 103.

Born to William and Alice Gallagher Longley, she lived in Harford County most of her life. At age 6 her family moved to Baltimore. Marguerite often recalled taking the #15 trolley up and down Rt. 1 to Eastern High School. After her 11th grade they moved back to Abingdon where she graduated from Aberdeen High School. Marge attended the former Eaton and Burnett Business College which eventually lead her to work at Edgewood Arsenal. She soon met her husband and love of her life Philip Heuman (Doc Heuman) at a dance on base. They married in April 1942 and in 1953 moved to Bel Air.

Her passion for photography began as a youth when she received her first Kodak Brownie camera at age 10 later editing and developing her own work. She loved horses especially her horse Yankee and breeding her beloved Cocker Spaniels while her husband Phil was going to University of Maryland Medical School.

She had an amazing group of friends gathered from her involvement in her church, the Women’s Auxiliary Medical Association, The Evergreen Garden Club, multiple bridge clubs, golfing groups at Maryland Golf and Country Club where she and her husband were charter members, too many to list. Marguerite was named a Harford County Living Treasure.

She loved beauty and that was apparent in her gardening, flower arranging and decorating. Marguerite enjoyed travel especially with friends and went almost yearly to Europe and the British Isles as well as many trips to CA and AZ. She entertained with grace and aplomb.

For over 65 years she was an active member of Bel Air United Methodist Church 21 Linwood Ave, Bel Air where the visitation and memorial service for her will be held on Saturday May 15th. Visitation will start at 1 pm and a memorial service to celebrate her life at 2 pm.

She is survived by her children M. Craig Heuman of Abingdon, Christine Herman of San Diego, Patricia Jager of Port Charlotte, FL, and Philip Heuman of Owings, MD; 10 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews.
