Margaret "Thetis" Barry Evans, Havre de Grace, MD June 9, 2010
Born October 23, 1917, in Ticonderoga, NY, to William E. Barry and Pauline Champagne Barry. She graduated as Salutatorian of her class at Ticonderoga High School in 1935. She worked as a telephone operator at Sampson Naval Base at Seneca Lake, NY, and later as the chief telephone operator for the town of Ticonderoga. She married Robert H. Evans on December 28, 1946 and moved to Baltimore, MD. She was a stay at home mother and raised four children. She worked part time through the years in many capacities, and she and her husband also had a successful Amway business. She volunteered at St. Stephen's Church in the nursery and spent several years cooking for the convent nuns. She was an accomplished seamstress and a voracious reader. She also enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles and word games. She liked to do the daily crossword and played a mean game of Scrabble. She was well known locally as Mrs. Santa Claus, as her late husband played the Harford Mall Santa for thirteen years.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, William E. Barry, Jr. and sister, Friedora Barry Carter. She is survived by two sisters, Donalda Jean Stanley and Mary Orpha Myers, both of Plattsburg, NY; four children, Robert W. Evans and wife, Linda, of Jarrettsville, MD, M. Suzanne Evans Colopoulos and husband, William, of Chanhassen, MN, JoAnn Evans Plaine and husband, John, of Bel Air, MD, and John B. Evans and wife, Faye, of Houston, DE; grandchildren , Robert W. Evans, Jr. and wife, Laurie, of Forest Hill, MD, Wm. Bradford Everett of Chanhassen, MN, Bryan G. Everett and wife, Jaclyn, of Chanhassen, MN, Jennifer Plaine Endsley and husband, Keith, of Shelbyville, IL, David E. Plaine and John S. Plaine of Bel Air, MD, Maurice "Buddy" Haynes and wife, Amber, of Houston, DE, Staci Evans Moonshower and husband, Ben, of Lakenheath, Brandon, England, and John B. Evans, Jr. of Houston, DE; four great grandchildren, Garrett J. Endsley, Karalyn S. Endsley, Ashlyn N. Everett, and Carter R. Evans.
Friends may call at McComas Funeral Home, P.A., Abingdon, MD, Monday, June 14, 2010 from 7 to 9 P.M. Memorial Mass will be held at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Bradshaw, MD on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 10:00 A.M.
