Margaret Himes, age 90, of Joppa, Maryland, passed away on January 15, 2024. She was born in Pembroke, North Carolina, to the late Robert and Flavie (Seals) Smith and was the loving wife of the late John Howard Himes. Margaret was a devoted member of Emmorton Baptist Church for 30 years. She was also actively involved in the Garden Club in Joppatowne and the Baltimore American Indian Center in Fells Point.
Margaret found joy in various hobbies, including spending time in her garden, going for walks, creating jewelry and crafts, particularly Indian jewelry and dreamcatchers. She was skilled in sewing, quilting and macramé. Margaret had an enormous love for children, starting an at-home daycare center and volunteering at the church nursery. She cherished her Southern roots and loved traveling to the South to visit her family. She took pride in embracing her Lumbee Indian heritage and instilled these values in her children.
Margaret is survived by her sons, Patrick (Amanda) Himes, Richard (Jessica) S. Himes, John William Himes; grandchildren, Kyle M. Himes, Emma L. Himes, and Alexander S. Himes; brothers, Marvin Smith and Wade Smith, and sister, Cora Stokes.
In addition to her husband and parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Lynn Himes, and thirteen siblings, Donnie, Oscar, Willie, Alex, Belton, Robert, Mary, Adell, Leola, Gollmer, Beulah, Callie and Carrie Lee.
