Margaret H. Oakley

Margaret H. Oakley, age 99, of Abingdon, Maryland passed away on January 19, 2022. Born in Delta, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of John and Hester (Bowman) Romanough and wife of the late Wilson Oakley.  After her mother’s passing, she was raised by her great Aunt & Uncle, Frank & Mary Turner. 

She was a member of Cokesbury UMC since childhood.  She was very involved in the church, volunteering for many different tasks, including making curtains for the church and cooking dinners. She retired in 1980 from Aberdeen Proving Ground - Edgewood Area as Head of Personnel Division after 35 years of service.  After retirement, she was very active with the Homemakers Group and the Senior Citizens Group in Edgewood.  She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, sewing, making crafts, and playing pinochle & bridge.  She was involved with the Abingdon and Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Companies and the ELKS.   

Margaret is survived by a son, Wilson Bryon Oakley of Austin, TX; daughter, Fredericka “Ricky” L. Parker of Abingdon, MD; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Carl Oakley; a daughter, Mary Joanne Beverati; 1 sister & 3 brothers.
