Margaret Priscilla Elizabeth Douey Neilson Cooke (known to all as Peg, or Mom, or Mom-Mom Peggy, or Great Grandmom) passed away peacefully on October 1, 2017 in Bel Air, Maryland. She was 97 years old. A teenager in the Great Depression, a wife during World War II, a mother during the Vietnam War and the unrest of the 1960s, she was a shining example of the Greatest Generation – resilient, passionate, and unquestionably strong-willed. Born in New York City, growing up in the Catskill Mountains and Great Britain, she and her husband, author and illustrator Donald E. Cooke, settled in Havertown, PA in the Philadelphia area in 1947, Wayne PA in 1967 and raised their family. Later in life after her husband passed away, she moved to Maryland to be close to her daughter. As a dedicated mother, she considered her family to be her greatest achievement – she is survived by three children (Warren Forrest Cooke, Donald Alan Cooke, Margaret Heather Costantino), one son- and two daughters-in-law, nine grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Amedisys Hospice, 7106 Ridge Road, Suite 140, Rosedale, MD, 21237.
