MARGARET B. ROSS, of Bel Air, died at the home of her daughter in Havre de Grace on May 16, 2005 at the age of 90.
Born December 8, 1914 in Saint Johns, Ohio, she was the daughter of William Francis and Ada Bailey Bush. A Registered Nurse, she was educated in the Auglaize County public school system and graduated from Lima Memorial Hospital of Nursing in Ohio in 1937. She pursued her career working in supervision and private duty, where she met her future husband, a patient under her care.
In 1941, she married Dr. Charles P. Ross, D.V.M. and moved to Maryland where she accepted a position as supervisor of obstetrics at the Edgewood Arsenal. After the war and as her family grew, she dedicated herself to homemaking and assisting her husband in his veterinary practice.
Mrs. Ross was a loving person who devoted her life to her husband, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed animals of all kinds but especially loved her cat, “Charlie”. For many years, she operated the Town and Country Kennel in Aberdeen. In 1972, she and her husband retired and traveled extensively prior to moving to Ft. Myers, FL where they lived until 1992. At that time, they returned to Harford County.
During the 60’s, Mrs. Ross took great interest in the “younger generation” and was affectionately called “Mom” by most Bel Air High School teens. She was instrumental in the formation of the YMCA in Harford County and was a former member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church, the Soroptimist Club, the American Kennel Club, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. She and her husband enjoyed boating, gardening, and supporting the community. They dedicated a great deal of time to improve Harford County and the Chesapeake Bay.
Mrs. Ross is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Gene Wood of Red Lion, Pennsylvania, Diana and Dan Coates of Havre de Grace, and Charlene and Mike Sasso of Monkton; five grandchildren, Peggy Glassman of Bel Air, Patrick Depkin of Joppa, Perry Budd of Edgewood, Cathy Budd of Edgewood, and Ross Coates of Havre de Grace; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Dr. Charles P. Ross, her infant daughter, Anna Alice Ross, her sister, Aurelia Fullerton and her brother, Bailey Bush.
Pallbearers will be: Randy Cunningham, Gene Wood, Mike Sasso, Dan Coates, Patrick Depkin, Ross Coates, Perry Budd, and Carl Glassman.
