Mae Margaret Opie, age 80, of Bel Air, MD passed away on December 24, 2017 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. Born in Flintstone, MD, she was the daughter of Homer Cross Rice and Zerna Belinda (Jordan) Rice. Since she was a young girl she felt her calling in life was teaching. She was a school teacher in Harford County from 1959-1985, mostly teaching at Bel Air Elementary School. After retirement, she taught at Mountain Christian School, loved home schooling, and also worked with Harford Community College. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Bel Air.
Ms. Opie is survived by her daughter, Pamela Jones of Bel Air; son, Daniel (Brittany) S. Opie of Colora; two brothers, Ralph Rice of Flintstone and Homer Rice, Jr. of Hampton, VA; and grandchildren, Jason, Rachel and Jacob Jones, Deanna, Bailey and Bradley Opie.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Marion Hoppengardner, Leonard Rice, Evelyn Rice and Richard Rice.
