Madeleine Frances Murphy

Madeleine Frances Murphy, age 84, of Abingdon, Maryland, passed away on March 29, 2022, at Senator Bob Hooper House in Forest Hill, Maryland. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of John and Madeleine (McCunney) Higgins and wife of the late Peter Joseph Murphy Jr. A long-time resident of Joppatowne, Madeleine was a realtor for 40 years, working the longest for Long and Foster and was a member of several Real Estate organizations. She was the Past President of the Joppatowne Woman's Club and active in the community. She had an active and full life filled with many close friends from her childhood, community, and career in real estate. Her favorite restaurant was the Peppermill where she and her husband enjoyed spending time with family and their “Peppermill” friends. 

Madeleine is survived by her children, Peter J. Murphy III (Donna), Madeleine F. Hyde, Thomas G. Murphy (Dee), and Daniel P. Murphy (Sandy); grandchildren, Peter J. Murphy IV, Matthew J. Murphy, Michelle C. Leary, Britney N. Wilson, Joseph "Chaz" C. Hyde Jr., Stephen A. Hyde, Shannon A. Hoofnagle, Thomas G. Murphy Jr., Kyle L. Murphy, Katherine F. Murphy, Meghan M. Murphy, Daniel P. Murphy Jr. and Elizabeth E. Murphy; great grandchildren, Peter J. “Quinn” Murphy V, Oliver Murphy, Nolan Murphy, Raegan Leary, Leah Murphy, Mack Murphy, James Hoofnagle, Carson Wilson and Ivy Wilson. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, John “Jay” Lawrence Murphy and her brother, John Lawrence Higgins, Jr.
