Mabel I. Hodge

October 9, 1918 — June 18, 2004

MABEL I. HODGE, age 85, of Edgewood, passed away at Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Belcamp on June 18, 2004 due to health complications. Born and raised in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude Gautier. She had one brother, Hubert Gautier. She had been married to Alvie E. Hodge for 58 years. Being an Army wife she lived in many places, Texas, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, before settling in Harford County, Maryland. Her passion was music and she loved to sing around the piano with family and friends. She always looked forward to the yearly pie sings at Calvary Baptist Church. She sang in the choir at Edgewood Baptist Church and Maple View Baptist Church.

She taught little children in Sunday School and loved reading Bible stories to them and teaching them simple church songs. "Ms. Mabel" as she was fondly called, loved gardening and "diggin' in the dirt" for her flowers. She had a fondness for her pets, feeding squirrels and watching birds. Her spare time was spent reading, sewing and embroidery. She worked 23 years for the Edgewood Arsenal Post Exchange (PX) and had many, many friends.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Donna Ledford and her husband, Charles of Old Fort, North Carolina; son, David Hodge and his wife, Susan of Bel Air; daughter, Sandy Hodge and her friend David Strock of Delta, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Loren Ledford and his wife, Dena of Marion, North Carolina; Laine Stewart and her husband, Richie of Efland, North Carolina; Lori Greene and her husband, Travis of Old Fort, North Carolina; Joanne Hodge; Jason Hodge, both of Bel Air; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Mitchell, Mason, and Max Ledford, all of Marion, North Carolina; and Evan Stewart of Efland, North Carolina.

Mom was very loved and will be greatly missed.

Pallbearers were Charles Ledford, Loren Ledford, Travis Greene, Jason Hodge and Matthew Osborne.
