MABEL A. SCARBOROUGH, age 98, of Glen Arm, MD, formerly of Bel Air, MD, died on July 30, 2006 at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Towson, MD. Born in Fallston, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Lewis August and Annetta Louise Snider Amrein and the wife of the late Edmund R. Scarborough, Sr. At a very early age, she became the organist at Fallston Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Fallston Homemakers Club, Fallston Grange (Organization of Farmers), and Bel Air Lioness Club. She was a 4-H leader. At Bethel Presbyterian Church, she was president of the Bethel Women’s Association, Sunday school teacher, and leader of the Youth Group. She was a Harford County school teacher for eighteen years. She was a charter member of Christ Our King Presbyterian Church where she was a Deacon, secretary, Sunday school teacher, and volunteer. She also volunteered at Fallston General Hospital. In 2005 she was awarded “Living Treasure of Harford County”.
Mrs. Scarborough is survived by two sons: Edmund R. Scarborough, Jr., and his wife, Elizabeth (“Bette”), of Bel Air, MD; N. Richard Scarborough, and his wife, Carolyn (“Tudie”), of Fallston, MD; one brother, George F. Amrein of Albermarle, NC; one sister, Frances A. Smith of Whitehall, MD; seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one daughter, Nancy J. Tyler.
Pallbearers will be Sheree D. DeSouza, Wendee L. McCue, Edmund R. Scarborough III, W.M. Carroll Scarborough, John R. Scarborough and T. Jeffrey Tyler.
In lieu of flowers, contributes may be made to Christ Our King Presbyterian Church Music Department, 10 Lexington Road, Bel Air, MD 21014.
