M. CARL JOHNSON, age 85, of Bel Air, MD, died on July 6, 2007 at his home. Born in Bel Air, MD, he was the son of the late Melvin Pyle and Winifred Olivia Hawkins Johnson. A lifelong resident of Bel Air, he attended Bel Air High School and later, Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania, where he played baseball and football. He graduated from Washington and Lee University in Virginia where he excelled in baseball. He then attended the University of Maryland Law School. A veteran of the Marine Corps, he served our country during WWII. He worked at Johnson Credit Company, which was the family business, from the early 1940’s until 1991. The business was started in 1931. He enjoyed playing golf at his home course, Maryland Golf and Country Club, and won the Harford County Senior Championship in golf for several years. He enjoyed working with wood and specialized in refinishing furniture.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Peggy Johnson of Bel Air, MD; a daughter, Lynne Wilkie of Ellicott City, MD; two step-daughters, Beverly Hildwein of Mt. Wolfe, PA and Peggy Jo Thomas of Elizabethtown, PA; seven grandchildren, Sandra Lynne Lowe of Edmond, OK, Elizabeth Ann Johnson and Josh Johnson, both of Bel Air, MD, Ellen Wilkie and John Wilkie, both of Ellicott City, MD; two step-grandchildren, Sara Hildwein and Lauren Hildwein, both of Mt. Wolfe, PA; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Myrtle Greer Johnson, a son, Christopher C. Johnson and a sister, Joyce J. Blevins.
Pallbearers will be David Wilkie, John Wilkie, Josh Johnson, John Vickers, Jeff Vickers, and Gary Barlow.
