M. Alverta Showalter, age 92, of Street, Maryland passed away on September 15, 2022 at her home. Born in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Frederick and Martha (Koones) Claar and wife of the late Luther Showalter Jr. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Baltimore City Hospital for over 30 years. She later had a second career at Belfort Instrument Company assembling clocks used in weather instruments. She enjoyed traveling with her late husband, visiting all 49 continental states, and Mexico and Canada. When she was younger, she enjoyed sewing and tatting for her grandchildren and in later years enjoyed reading.
Alverta is survived by her daughter, Victoria (Glenn) Raistrick; sons, James (Cinda) Showalter and Alan (Esther) Showalter; sisters, Grace Pennell and Joanne McKinney; brothers, Emmert Claar, Glenn Claar and Edwin Claar; grandchildren, Shari (Tim) Goodenough, Lauri (Jason) Krall, Ian Raistrick, Megan Gullion and Dana (Matthew) Goodwin; great grandchildren, Alexis Krall, Adrien (Dylan Waltman) Krall, Aaron Krall, Brandon Goodenough, Ryan (Jenny) Goodenough, Logan Gullion, Jackson Gullion, Owen Goodwin, and Grant Goodwin; great-great granddaughter, Amara Waltman; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Nannie Olive Byrd.
