Luther “Butch” Smith, age 71, of Edgewood, Maryland passed away on February 26, 2021 at his residence in Edgewood, Maryland. Born in Marfrance, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Bill and Myrtle (nee Stidom) Dukeman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country as Staff Sargent 1st Class, E-7. After 24 years of service he worked for civil service for 15 years. He was a member and past commanders of both the VFW 5838 Joppatown and American Legion post 17 Edgewood. He was a passionate fisherman all his life.
Luther is survived by his wife Elisabeth Smith; brother, Billy Dukeman and his wife Fran; son, Swen Gundert and his wife Tanja Gundert; their children, Nico and Dina Darlene Gundert; daughter, Nadia Brandscheid her husband Holger Brandscheid. Also survived by his children Luke and Michelle Dickens as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended loving family and friends.
Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
