Lowell Nelson Dykes, Sr., age 87, of Monkton, Maryland passed away on February 15, 2021 at his home. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of Llewellyn and Ruth (Miller) Dykes. He served his country during the Korean War in the US Army and the 135th MD Air National Guard for a total of 39 years. Lowell worked as a personnel director for the Maryland Department of Rehabilitation. He was a life member of the American Legion Post #174 Kelly-Timonium where he was a Past Vice Commander. He enjoyed going to the beach and “piddling around”. He loved his family and his animals and was especially loved and will be missed by Princes Garnet and Howard, his devoted pets.
Lowell is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lucille Dykes; sons, Lowell "Mike" Nelson Dykes, Jr. (Mary Jane) and Jason Goodwin (Jennifer); daughters, Lynne Mae Eyler (William) and Cheryl Denise Troyer (Steve); grandchildren, Laura Porrovicchio, Amy Dykes, Timmy Dykes, Steven Dykes, Stephen Troyer, Sarah Troyer, Ashley Troyer, Chance Troyer, Lilly Troyer and Michael Troyer; and 14 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Emma Murphy and Jennifer Troyer, brother, Llewellyn Moore Dykes, Jr. and sisters, Ruth Irene Scully and Fannie Gwendelyn Spongberg.
