Lorene Mae Kregar

August 15, 1943 — April 7, 2017

Lorene Mae Kregar, age 73, of Jarrettsville, MD passed away on April 7, 2017 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on August 15, 1943 to Bertie Mae Royal Stanley and Elzy Dean Stanley Sr. She was a coal miner's daughter born and raised in the hills of Abbs Valley, VA where she attended Pocahontas High School. For over 25 years, she had an in-home daycare where she loved and cared for many children. She attended Edgewood Assembly of God Church for more than 50 years where she was a member of the choir, taught Missionettes and worked in the nursery. She blessed the lives of many children over the years. She had a gentle, quiet nature but fiercely loved her friends and family. She collected angels and loved Christmas, was an avid Oriole and Ravens fan, and was the precious lifelong friend of Polly Virginia Shunk.

Mrs. Kregar is survived by her husband, Roger Dale Kregar who she eloped with on November 6, 1964; daughters, Rebecca Ayre (John), Patty Atkinson (Brad) and Carolyn Maines (David); 12 grandchildren, Christopher Kregar, Megan Kregar, Morgan Ayre, Jackalyn Atkinson, Ethan Maines, Sean Atkinson, Christina Atkinson, Jill Ackerman, Rachel Slider, Mariah Maines, Lauren Maines and Garrett Maines; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was looking forward to the arrival of another precious great-grandchild soon. Lorene's first grandchild Christopher was an unexpected but treasured surprise. She helped raise him and proudly called him "her son". She is also survived by her siblings Charlotte Holcomb (Dean), Elzy Stanley Jr. (Kathy), Johnny Stanley (Kathy) and Wayne Stanley (Debbie); and sister-in-law, Darla Stanley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Robert, Larry, Jerry and Loretta Lynn Stanley.

Pallbearers will be Joe Kregar, Stewart Kregar, Matt Archis, Hayes Shunk, Tony Shunk, Randy Jennings, Christopher Kregar and Sean Atkinson. Honorary pallbearer will be Dean Pope.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Edgewood Assembly of God, 803 Edgewood Road, Edgewood, MD 21040.
