Lois Sommer Gibson, daughter of Nelle Weimer and Louis R. Sommer, beloved wife of the late Nelson C. Gibson (married for 53 wonderful years). She was born 1924 in Balboa Canal Zone Panama. She is survived by her son T. Scott Gibson of Pennsylvania, and daughter Leslie G. Gibson of Forest Hill, her sister Virginia S. Moorefield, a niece Audrey Gail Gibson, grand nephew Timothy S. Sherman and four grandchildren, Shauna L. Garber, Leah E. Gibson, Brett R. Wilson, Rachel R. Wilson a brother and sister-in-law, William A. and Erma E. Gibson.
Lois received her high school, college and business education in Washington D.C. Her first position was transcribing cables for foreign embassy. She later served as executive secretary for Nash-Kelvinator Corporation and the National Association of the American Legion. She was an elementary school secretary and active in the PTA of Prince George's County. While residing in Texas, she was the editor of "The Plant Papers" for General Tire and Rubber Company. Upon returning to DC, she was employed by U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare Department. During her career she also wrote for several magazines and newspapers. She devoted a great part of her life to helping raise funds for schools, churches, and her favorite charities, especially John Archer School for the handicapped in Bel Air, MD. She spent many years teaching the art of Oriental Embroidery and her oriental embroidery of the Sailship won first prize in the Fabric Division at Bel Air Festival of the Arts.
