Lloyd C. Fry, age 89, of Bel Air, Maryland passed away on April 8, 2021. Born in Adamstown, Maryland, he was the son of Lawrence and Mary E. (Graham) Fry of Frederick, Maryland.
A career educator he earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from Salisbury State Teachers College (now Salisbury University) and a Master of Education (plus 30 advanced credits) from the University of Delaware. He began his teaching career at Havre de Grace Elementary School in 1953 and was drafted into the U.S. Army where he was assigned to the Armed Forces Special Weapons Project. Following his discharge from military service he returned to teaching and then served 33 years as principal of Youth’s Benefit Elementary, Jarrettsville Elementary, Aberdeen Elementary and Bakerfield Elementary schools. He was inducted in the Harford County Educator Hall of Fame in 2003.
An active member of the Bel Air United Methodist Church for over 60 years, he served as chairman and a member of numerous church committees and continued to do volunteer work in recent years.
In his early years he enjoyed participating in sports including softball, basketball, soccer and bowling. He took particular joy in watching his children, daughter-in-law and grandson participating in sports. He enjoyed following the Orioles, Ravens and Aberdeen Ironbirds.
A kind and caring man, he strongly embraced a “family first” approach and found great enjoyment in helping others.
He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Kathleen G. Fry.
He is survived by son, Donald C. Fry and his wife, Bonnie, of Bel Air; a daughter, Lynn A. Fry of Abingdon; a grandson, Matthew C. Fry of Bel Air/Orlando, Florida; a sister, Lois F. Tyson of Frederick, Maryland and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two brothers Ralph E. Fry, L. Howard Fry, and a sister, Mary Catherine Shannon.
