Lisen Ruth Noyes

March 18, 1942 — November 25, 2024

Lisen Ruth Noyes passed away November 25, 2024, at her room at Oak Crest Senior Living in Parkville, Maryland.

Born in Baltimore, on March 18, 1942, Lisen was the daughter of F. Leigh Noyes and Louisa C. (Pike) Noyes. Her name was from a nickname for her Swedish grandmother, Ida Elise.

Her parents moved to Maryland in 1940 when her father received a job offer at Glenn L. Martin Co., but as they were from the Newburyport, Massachusetts area with family there, her summers were always spent at her grandparents’ home on Bromfield Street, or on Plum Island at their cottage.

After graduating from Parkville High School in 1960, near Baltimore, she briefly attended the University of Maryland but opted to move in with her grandmother Edith P. (Leigh) Noyes in Newburyport and found work as a bank teller.

Lisen married and moved to Wallingford, CT, and soon became a mother to her son, Bill.

In 1971, as her marriage ended, and she returned to Maryland with her son and entered a career in computer programming, an industry just taking off.

Within a few years, she had a house in Jarrettsville, MD, and did very well in the computer field. Lisen was even one of the first to have a home computer, telling Bill in 1981 that when he grew up, people would have them in their homes like TV sets.

A thrill for her was becoming a grandmother, doting on Rachel including Saturdays at Friendly’s for lunch and ice cream, perhaps baking cookies together.

Lisen remained in Jarrettsville until her retirement in 2003, when she moved back to New England, this time choosing Kingston, NH, where she made friends easily and enjoyed time making her house a home.

By 2018, about the time she moved back to Maryland to be near her first great grandson, Lisen began showing signs of trouble and soon was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, which rapidly took control of her life.

She spent her remaining years in Oak Crest, attempting to slow the effect of the cruel disease, yet still enjoying some pleasures of life.

Lisen is survived by her son, William A. Hallett II, and his wife Elizabeth of Kingston, NH; granddaughter Rachel L. Kendzejeski and her husband Paul, plus their boys, her great-grandsons Jensen and Trevor, all from Forest Hill, MD. She’s also survived by brother Harvey L. Noyes and his wife Joyce of Towson, MD; sister Susan Scarborough and husband Lee of Jarrettsville, MD; sister Charlotte Noyes and husband Clark Watkins of Carmel, CA; and many nieces and nephews. She’s also survived by her step grandson Patrick Kelly of Salisbury, MA, and his sons Josh and David; step granddaughter Aileen Wilson and her husband Jesse of Chesapeake, VA; and many friends from New Hampshire to Maryland.

She loved Plum Island and Newburyport, knitting, crossword puzzles, Scrabble, music, baking cookies, time with her family, especially the little ones, and romantic movies.
