LEONARD R. CATALANO, SR., age 77, of Bel Air, died in Upper Chesapeake Medical Center on May 22, 2003. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Santo and Lena LePore Catalano. He had retired after 30 years of service at General Motors where he worked as a welder. He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Hornet which played a key role in WW II Pacific Theater. He enjoyed breeding and showing racing pigeons. He was a devoted family man. He was a member of the VFW Post 10113 and the American Legion Post 0297.
Mr. Catalano is survived by his wife of 54 years, G. Marie Sobotka Catalano; two sons, Leonard R. Catalano, Jr. and his wife, Elayne of Baltimore; Steven D. Catalano and his wife, Robin of Kenai, Alaska; one daughter, Deborah C. Madore and her husband, Arthur Madore of Bel Air; a son-in-law, Warren E. Bernard of Florida; two sisters, Anna Salemi of Baltimore; Frances Ortiz of Baltimore; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Catalano of Baltimore; Tara Smith of Rising Sun; Toby Bernard of Forest Hill; Jessica Bernard of Abingdon; Katrina Carpenter of Nikiski, Alaska; Nina Rogers Catalano of Sterling, Alaska; Dawn DuPree of Anchorage, Alaska; six great-grandchildren, Mason Bernard; Garrett Bernard, both of Forest Hill; Calvin Carpenter; Maizie Carpenter, both of Nikiski, Alaska; Veronica Rogers; and Alexis Rogers, both of Sterling, Alaska. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Joseph Catalano.
Pallbearers will be: Steven Catalano, Rick Catalano, Artie Madore, Toby Bernard, Warren Bernard, Robert Knoedler, Robert Barrett, and Riccardo Ortiz.
