Leonard M. Carter, Jr. (84) of Abingdon, Maryland died peacefully on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. He was born on September 25, 1937 in Kingsville, Maryland to the late Leonard Morris Carter, Sr. and Gladys Ruby Carter (nee Hitchcock). He is survived and ever loved by his wife of 61 years, Mary Jane Carter (nee Nowosielski); three children, Walter R. “Rob” Carter and Dawn, Constance D. “Connie” Crumrine and Greg, and Leonard M. “Mike” Carter and Cindy; five grandchildren, Jeremy and Christopher Carter, Denee and Gary Crumrine and Victoria Smith; three great grandchildren, Gavin, Liam and Cassidy Carter. He is predeceased by his parents and sister Anna “Chookie” Lewis. Leonard was a carpenter and excavator. He owned and operated Dig-It Backhoe and Loader Service. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his wife, grandkids and friends. He was a car enthusiast, handyman and punster. He was frugal but generous, kindhearted and hard working. He was always eager to lend a helping hand to family, friends, neighbors and strangers alike. Leonard was a man of many names and even more jokes. His family and friends knew him as Leonard, Len, LeNard, Little Lenny, Dad, Da, Skeeter, Uncle Shorty and Elmo Twittle. We will remember him with much love and fondness. He will be greatly missed.
