LEONA WATSON HENDRIX, businesswoman dies at age 68 on February 5, 2005, following a long and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by family members.

Born September 25, 1936 in Sparta, North Carolina, she was one of nine children born to the late Bledsue George and Ester Haley Watson.

During the 70’s and 80’s, Mrs. Hendrix and her late husband, Clive T. and their associates were among the most prominent and prolific developers of real estate in Harford County, having developed dozens of prestigious residential housing communities including Oakridge, Ponderosa, Tudor Manor, Hampton Ridge and Glenville Manor. Mrs. Hendrix was a very successful businesswoman in her own right, having established, owned and operated several successful businesses allied with the construction industry. Mr. and Mrs. Hendrix, along with a group of associates also founded the Harford County affiliate of the Bank of Maryland which has branches throughout the state. In addition, the couple was heavily involved with commercial leasing.

Mrs. Hendrix, affectionately called “Moe” by family, was described by many friends and associates as a self-made woman who achieved considerable success. Her accomplishments were attributed to her dedication to hard work and personal integrity. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt and friend. Her love for spending time with family and friends was paramount. She also derived great joy from gourmet cooking, interior decorating, golf, and bridge. She was a long standing member of the Maryland Golf and Country Club. She enjoyed sharing the fruits of success with the people close to her and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bel Air.

Mrs. Hendrix is survived by the “joys of her life”- her two daughters, Rebecca Lynne Hendrix of New York City, New York and Fairfield, CT ; Elizabeth Ann Hendrix and fiancé, John Camm of Arlington, VA; two brothers, Thomas Watson and wife, Barbara of Darlington, MD; Clifton Watson and wife, Vivian of Forest Hill, MD; two sisters, Myrtle Slade and husband,
Paul of Bel Air, MD; Naomi White and husband, Gerald of Richmond, VA; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and her beloved “Nana” Lura Keene of Quarryville, PA.
She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Clive T. and her son, Michael and four brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Hendrix’s primary residence was Sunnybrook Farm, Shucks Road, Bel Air, MD. She also maintained residences in Roaring Gap, NC and Savannah, GA.

Pallbearers will be: Stephen Slade, William Rudy, John Camm, Brian Hendrix, Randy Getz, and Joel Getz. Honorary pallbearers will be: Paul Edward Slade, Daniel Guesman, Ralph Hendrix, Ron Cardwell, Robert Greene, David Edwards, Candy Sandoval, and Miriam “Mimi” Dimitriadas.
