Leona B. Hughes

LEONA BLEIGH HUGHES, of Joppatowne, MD, died on May 22, 2008 at Lorien Nursing Home in Riverside, MD. She was 86. She was the devoted wife of the late Gary Lee Hughes Sr. and the daughter of the late Jasper Oliver Bleigh and Lura Bell Prunty Mullay. Mrs. Hughes was born in Sutton, WV, but spent most of her adult years in Harford County. Before retiring from the secretarial field, she was employed at Sherwood Brothers Company, a subsidiary of Sinclair Oil Refining Company and various other companies. She is survived by her stepson, Gary Lee Hughes Jr. of Bethesda, MD; stepdaughter, Jane Hughes of Timonium, MD; niece Sandra Lee Neal and son, Christopher Lasecki, of Delray Beach, FL; and caregivers, Elden and Janet Harrison of Joppa, MD. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor and love of tennis.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Goldie Savage.
