Leigh Diane Carels of Easton, Maryland passed away on April 14, 2021. She was 55.
Born on June 26, 1965 in Queens, New York, she was the daughter of Karen Beebe Nordman and the late Gary Nordman. Leigh grew up in Bel Air, Maryland and was a member of the Girl Scouts where she received the Gold Award. She graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Science in May of 1987 as well as a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University on May 24, 1993. Leigh lived in Queens, NY from 1991-1992, she worked for the Department of Quarantine at JFK airport as a Health Inspector. She moved to Alexandria, VA where she worked as a Disease Investigation Specialist with the CDC. Leigh moved to Easton, Maryland in 1994, where she settled as an Epidemiologist working in HIV surveillance in Maryland for over 26 years. Leigh was a member of the Ravens Roost #141.
Leigh is survived by her daughter, Camryn Carels; mother, Karen Nordman; sister, Kim Foley (husband, Tom); brother, Brett Nordman (wife, Alex); and niece, Tessa Foley.
She was predeceased by her father, Gary Nordman.
