Lee Mann

Lee died suddenly and peacefully on August 12, 2009 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Charlotte Hall Maryland after a long and heroic battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born August 13, 1924 in Norwood, Massachusetts, Lee was the eldest son of the Reverend Leland W. Mann, and Mona Ruth Mann. He attended Grinnell College, Drake Law College, and McCoy College and is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University. He was a member of Delta Sigma Pi, the Hermon Masons Lodge #273 of Grinnell, Iowa, a National Rifle Association Life Member and a life member of the American Legion Post #39, where he served on the "Color Guard" for many years. Lee was a veteran of both WWII and Korea and participated in the liberation of Luzon with the 25th Infantry "Tropic Lightning" during WWII. He spent time in Japan during both his childhood and adulthood where he grew to love the culture and formed many lifelong friendships. He greatly enjoyed traveling in foreign lands, observing the people and their customs, and acquiring a bit of their language, which he loved surprising all of us with frequently. In his youth, Lee was active in wrestling, boxing and gymnastics. He had a great voice, loved to sing, and was a member of the glee club. Throughout his life, he loved reading, camping, fishing and shooting. He retired from Bethlehem Steel in 1983 and participated in volunteer work with the Harford County Department of Aging, the Perry Point VA Center and other organizations for many years.

He is now dancing with his beloved wife of 43 years, Marcella (nee Weiss), whom he married on Nov. 24, 1953 and who preceded him in death in 1996. He is survived by his sister Corky Mann of Santa Monica, CA, his brother Arthur Mann and his wife, Bernie, of Ames, Iowa, and his loving and devoted daughter Myla of Bel Air, MD, as well as his many nieces and nephews around the world whom he loved.

Myla and Tim would like to thank the caring staff of the CHVH, Unit 2B, including Tracey, Mary, Geneva, DeDe, Kevin, Tammy, Tamika, and many others too numerous to name, who compassionately cared for Lee during the final years of his life.

There are no services scheduled. The family is requesting memorials to the Alzheimer's Association Greater Maryland Chapter.
