Lawrence E. Watters

September 6, 1928 — March 9, 2022

Lawrence Watters passed into the presence of Jesus on March 9, 2022. He was 93 years old. Born on September 6, 1928 to a Fallston farm family, his father, Walter Archer Watters and his mother, Julia Rockey Watters raised Lawrence to love God, work hard, and care for others.

Lawrence served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954 during the Korean War on the aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge. Because of his reputation for integrity, responsibility and hard work, Lawrence was selected to serve as the personal driver for the carrier’s Captain when he went ashore overseas and in California. In 1951, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Bullis. Lawrence and Dot settled in San Diego to complete his Navy commitment and then returned to Fallston in 1954 to raise their family.

Lawrence worked for Harlatane Gas Company for 40 years.  He delivered propane and in time was promoted to company manager. During that time, he was active as a deacon and elder of his church, and he spent much of his free time creating three gardens full of flowers, fruits and vegetables that he shared with family and friends. He even built the house that he lived in for 65 years.

In addition to his parents, Lawrence is predeceased by his son, Richard Watters (Raquel) as well as his older siblings, Walter Watters, Jr., Muriel Thatcher, Marian Seay, and James Watters.

In addition to his wife, Dorothy, he is survived by his daughters Linda (Willard) Amoss of Fallston, and Diane (John) Dotson of Atlanta as well as 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Burial will take place at Mountain Christian Church cemetery.
