Lavinia Smith, daughter of the late Louise and Samuel Lawson, was born on February 15, 1906, in Sumter, S.C., and entered into eternal rest on September 18, 2015.
In 1935, Lavinia married Lesley Powell, and they were blessed with her daughter, the late Jean Fields. Lavinia worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital for 24 years in the Central Sterilization Unit as a nursing aide.
Later in life, she joined the Edgewood Senior Center and learned arts and crafts and how to decorate cakes. Lavinia also loved to cook, play board games and to spend time with her family. She was a life-long member of Gillis Memorial Christian Community Church and served on the usher board and became a Deaconess.
Lavinia was also preceded in death by her two sisters Lila Richardson, Lolli Lawson and one brother Samuel Lawson, Jr. and one great-grandson, Calvin Wooden II.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three granddaughters, Wanda Page, Ronda Taylor, and Synthia Carter, all of Edgewood, MD; two grandson-in-laws, Ronald Taylor and Clyde Page, both of Edgewood, MD; six great-grandchildren, Tasha Taylor of Yardley, PA, Ashley Taylor of Edgewood, MD, Deric Page of Edgewood, MD, Jessica Page of Baltimore, MD, Terrellies Page of Hinesville, GA, and Danielle Carter Kushner of Baltimore, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
