Laura Nell Hill, age 91, of Johnson City, TN, passed away on December 11, 2011 at Hart Heritage in Forest Hill, MD. Born in Blackwell, OK, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Laura Moore Loyd. She graduated from Butler University in Indiana and earned her Masters Degree from Wichita State University where she also taught. She served as Executive Assistant to the President at Milligan College in Tennessee where she was also on the teaching faculty. A resident of Johnson City, TN for 33 years, she served together with her husband at Ben Davis Christian Church in Indianapolis, IN, Westside Church in Wichita, KS, Mountain Christian Church in Joppa, MD and Downtown Christian Church in Johnson City, TN.
Her many talents included teaching, playing the piano, sewing/quilting/and various forms of needlework, and gardening (violets were her passion). Laura Nell volunteered at Mountain States Health Alliance in Johnson City as the first official "Cuddler" in their Neo-Natal department and volunteered as a literary tutor through the library.
Laura Nell loved her family fiercely and sacrificed freely for them. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Dr. Henry Emerson Hill of Bel Air, MD (formerly of Johnson City, TN); daughters, Laura Beth Richardson and husband, Mark, of Darlington, MD and Lucy Phillips and husband, Dr. Richard Phillips of Germantown, TN; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
