Larry Michael Komenda Sr., 71, of Abingdon, Maryland, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Born in Miami, Florida, he was the beloved son of John and Ruth (Wagner) Komenda and the devoted husband of Annette (Massoni) Komenda, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership since their first meeting on New Year’s Eve of 1973.
Larry honorably served his country as a member of both the U.S. Air National Guard and Army National Guard. His career in law enforcement spanned decades, beginning as a deputy sheriff for Baltimore County before continuing with the Cecil County Sheriff's Office, where he retired after a distinguished tenure.
In his earlier years, Larry was a DJ, spinning vinyl and bringing joy through music. A loyal Ravens fan, he loved watching games with family and friends. Known for his infectious humor and larger-than-life personality, Larry had a remarkable ability to light up any room. His laughter was contagious, and his love for his family and friends was unwavering. Larry was the ultimate protector and provider, always placing others’ needs before his own.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Annette Komenda; his two sons, Larry (Lydia) Komenda Jr. and Kevin Komenda; and his cherished grandchildren, Brooklyn, Elle, and Carsten. He is also survived by his five brothers, John (Debbie) Komenda, Jerry Komenda, Phil (Pat) Komenda, Tom Komenda, and Mike Komenda; his sister, Kathy (Mario) Scilipoti; and his in-laws, Frank (Michele) Massoni, Mike (Shirley) Massoni, Joe (Sherry) Massoni, and Kathy (Mark) Kemmerzell. Larry also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and godson Tony Scilipoti and goddaughter Beth Arbaugh, who will always remember his warmth and humor.
Larry was preceded in death by his father John Komenda and his sister-in-law, Cathy Komenda.
