Larry James Brant, 74, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2021 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Larry was born on September 1, 1946 to Melda and Roy Brant in Meyersdale, PA. He received a PhD in biostatistics from the Johns Hopkins University, after also attending Penn State University and Frostburg State University for earlier degrees.
He retired from the National Institute on Aging and also taught at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Loyola University. He was well known for his early contributions to the analysis of longitudinal data using mixed-effects regression models. His work resulted in well over a hundred peer-reviewed publications, plenary lectures, invited lectures and symposia, and book chapters. It also enabled him to travel extensively, and he became an inveterate international traveler with friends around the world.
Larry was dedicated to his family. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Roy, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Zulma; children Jennifer, Julia, and Laurence; grandchildren Lydia and Theodore; brothers Bill and John; and many nieces and nephews.
The family suggests that any charitable contributions in memory of Larry's life be made to Autism Speaks.
