Lacy Lee Ragan

Lacy L. Ragan, 97, of Churchville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2023, at her home. She was born in Piney Creek, North Carolina, on August 23, 1925, to the late Grover Lamont and Lucy (Blevins) Weaver. Lacy moved to Havre de Grace, Maryland in the 1930’s when her family migrated to Harford County from the mountains of northwestern North Carolina. When the family returned to their hometown, Lacy attended Piney Creek High School where she was a standout basketball player and graduated in 1944. After graduation, she attended cosmetology school in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she earned her cosmetology license.

Returning to Harford County in the late 1940s, Lacy met and married Albert Ragan of Churchville. They were married for 65 years, until his death in 2015.

She was the owner/operator of the Lady Ruth Beauty Salon in Aberdeen, Maryland, for 19 years. When the Harford Vocational-Technical High School was created in the mid-1960s, Lacy was recruited by Harford County Public Schools to teach Cosmetology for the new vocational school program. In 1978, she moved with the program to the new Harford Technical High School. She taught Cosmetology for 15 years, retiring in 1981.

In addition to being an avid Baltimore Orioles and college basketball fan, Lacy enjoyed traveling with her husband, gardening, birdwatching and was also a lover of animals. She was a wonderful cook and baker, often creating dishes and desserts made from “scratch”.

Lacy is survived by her three children, Thomas W. (Rita) Ragan, Brenda R. Taylor, and Danny R. (Ann) Ragan; three grandchildren, Garrett C. (Ashley) Ragan, Andrew G. (Jennifer) Ragan, and Wesley T. (April) Ragan; and four great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Lee, Willow, and Kamar Ragan.

In addition to her husband and parents, Lacy was predeceased by her son-in-law, Thomas S. Taylor, brother, Dale Weaver, and sisters, Eva Gambill, and Pauline Roark.
