Kenneth Melvin Smith, Sr.

February 9, 1923 – April 23, 2010

Kenneth M. Smith, Sr. passed away peacefully April 23, 2010 in Brandon, Florida, following a long series of illnesses. He has resided in Dover, FL, for the past several years with his wife Ellen. The couple has been married 38 years.

Originally from Baltimore Maryland, Ken ran his own auto repair and service business in Churchville, MD, until retiring in the 1980s. He enjoyed traveling with Ellen in their fifth wheel trailer visiting their children and grandchildren and wintering in Dover, FL. Ken and Ellen moved permanently to Dover in the mid 1990s.

Ken was a Navy veteran of WWII, and served as an aviation machinist's mate and tail gunner in a SB2C squadron, flying bombing missions over Japan when the war ended. After the war, he married Bernice Hart and had five children. Ken moved his family to Harford County, Maryland in 1955. Following the death of Bernice and his daughter Deborah, he married Ellen Morris in 1972.

His wife, sons Kenneth, Gary, Jeffrey and Timothy, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren survive him. Stepchildren Howard Morris, Karen Pierce, Greg Morris, and Laurie Ballantyne and their children, as well as the children of the late Paul Morris also survive him.

Ken was an active member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Churchville, MD, and served on the vestry for many years.
