Kathryn Melva Gleason Dick of Bel Air, Maryland died on December 26, 2016, she was 93 years old. Kay was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa on July 7, 1923 to Luella Stouffer and Alonso James Gleason. She grew up in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the oldest of four children: sister Donna Lou Reynolds, brothers Alonso James, Jr. and Robert Dale Gleason. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College (University of Northern Iowa) was a member and officer of Tau Sigma Delta sorority and served as President of the Student League in her senior year. She began her teaching career in Storm Lake, Iowa teaching primary school. After marrying G. Thomas Dick in 1947, she came to Bel Air and taught first grade at Bel Air Elementary until starting her family. Thereafter frequently substituting at Bel Air Elementary School and assisting her husband in his business, Rock Spring Electric Co.
Her family was most important to her. She was a loving mother of five children: Linda Kay Dennis (Guy), Thomas Gleason Deck (Lynda), Barbara Lu Waite (Tom), Maryann Stouffer Dick (Judy Rhodes) and Jonathan Stewart Dick; five grandchildren: Kathryn Dennis (Genora Dancel), Christine Liston (Trent), Paul Deck (Amy), Adam Deck, and Christopher Deck; seven great-grandchildren: Carter, Taylor and Faith Liston, Garrett and Aidan Deck, and Willow and Lily Deck.
Always thoughtful and kind, she enjoyed so many things. She loved outdoor activities, walking, and especially the beach. She enjoyed all aspects of nature and took great pleasure in sharing that love with her children and grandchildren. An avid bridge player, Kay was active in many local bridge clubs where she developed many enduring friendships. Her Monday night group played together for over 50 years. She also enjoyed socializing and traveling with her dear friends in the Mt. Gretna group. First Presbyterian Church of Bel Air was also an important part of her life. She was a member for 65 years serving in many ways including treasurer and moderator of Presbyterian Woman. She was also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and the American Association of University Women.
