Josephine Mary Schuman

Josephine Mary Schuman, age 84, of Joppa, MD, died on July 30, 2011 at Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Born in Camden, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Angelo R. Bondio and Maria Donata Fanelli Bondio, and wife of 35 years to the late Louis Frederick Schuman Sr.

A talented seamstress, she enjoyed designing and making clothing for herself and others. Following WWII she married and followed her husband's Navy career from New Jersey to Connecticut and then to Maryland, raising three children in the process. Her friends from a former duckpin bowling league team have remained a part of her life for nearly 50 years. Her love for cooking, bird watching, music and caring for plants, especially African Violets, are legacies that will endure in her family. She had great pride for her children but the greatest source of her joy came from her grandchildren.

Mrs. Schuman is survived by her daughter, Leslie A. Hook of Joppa, MD; sons, Louis F. Schuman Jr. of St. Mary's County, MD and Charles F. Schuman of Frederick County, MD; sister, Emily R. Naylor of Blackwood, NJ; and grandchildren, Nathan L. Sammons of York, PA, Danielle M. Schuman of St. Mary's Co., Taylor C. Schuman of Frederick Co., Elizabeth A. Schuman of St. Mary's Co., Abraham E. Schuman and Haley Schuman, both of Frederick Co.
