JOSEPH WILLIAM FOSTER, age 76, of Bel Air, MD, died on October 21, 2006 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. Born in Bel Air, he was the son of the late Joseph Turner and Sophia Lottie Brady Foster, and still resided in the house that they built in 1932. After graduating from Bel Air High School, Mr. Foster earned a Biology degree from the University of MD in 1952. From there he went on to Eckels College of Mortuary Science, where he graduated with the President’s Award in 1953. After working for many years with his father in the family business, Foster Funeral Home, he operated it as a sole proprietor from 1957 until his retirement twelve years ago. Mr. Foster was an accomplished competitor in target pistol shooting, winning many awards. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and the most longstanding member of the local Long Branch Rifle Association. In later years, he also enjoyed constructing and flying radio controlled model airplanes. Mr. Foster was a member of Mt. Ararat Masonic Lodge No. 44 A.F.&A.M., and a member of the Bel Air Rotary Club since 1953.
Mr. Foster is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jeanne Armstrong Foster; two sons, Dr. Jeffrey W. Foster of Middletown, DE and Dr. James A. Foster of Augusta, GA; one daughter, Dr. Jennifer E. Foster of Middletown, MD; one sister, Mildred E. Foster of Parkville, MD; and five grandchildren.
