Joseph Richard Carper, 84, of Seaford, DE passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at his home. Joe was born on August 19, 1933 in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late Lewis Walter Carper and Mary Scarantino Carper. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Geraldine Adams Carper, a daughter, LuAnn Carper Marzicola and her husband Randy of Frederick, MD and his son Michael Carper and his wife Patricia of Fallston, MD, 4 grandchildren Stephanie and Chelsea Carper of Fallston, MD, Matthew Marzicola of Arlington, VA and Heather Lindhorst and her husband Jonathan of Kingsville, MD. Two great granddaughters, Kaylee and Harper Lindhorst and a sister Marylou Carper Syzmanski. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews that were very special to him.

Joe enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951 and proudly served on the USS Philippine Sea in the Korean War. He received the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and China Service Medal.

Joe was a longtime resident of Harford County raising his family in Joppatowne and later residing in Abingdon before retiring to Seaford, DE. He was a longtime member of the Northeast Maryland Officials Association serving the community for 22 years as a football and basketball official and baseball umpire in Maryland and DC. During retirement, Joe loved spending time working as a school bus driver in Abingdon. He enjoyed his time with the kids and the camaraderie with his fellow bus drivers. A huge sports fan, he loved the Ravens and Orioles and never missed a game.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Disabled American Veterans, 31 Hopkins Plaza, Baltimore, MD 21201.
