Joseph Rehrmann, age 81, of Bel Air, MD passed away on January 19, 2017, at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. Born in Wilmington, DE, he was the son of the late William Joseph and Mary Dolores (Mullaney) Rehrmann. He was a research chemist for the U.S. Army Soldier and Biological Chemical Command at Edgewood Arsenal and was a pioneer in the application of adsorption science for the study of biological gases. Mr. Rehrmann's 37 years of distinguished service include his published research and laboratory work to enhance the U.S. Army's ability to protect its soldiers in combat.
He was active in the community, dedicating over 40 years to coaching soccer, basketball, baseball, and softball. He was also a past President and Chairman of Bel Air Parks and Recreation and believed in promoting equal opportunities for women in sports, establishing the first women's high school soccer program in Harford County in 1983 at The John Carroll School. His favorite pastimes included running, walking, golfing, and spending time with his family and beloved grandchildren.
Mr. Rehrmann is survived by his children, William (Lisa) Rehrmann of Elkton, Robert Rehrmann of Bethesda, MD, MaryAnne (Tony) Hejna of Cleveland, OH, Krissy (Ben) Flatau of Joppa; brothers, David Rehrmann of Seaville, NJ, and James Martin-Rehrmann of Florence, MA; sister, Marylyn Bazzeghin of Pawleys Island, SC; grandchildren, Cameron and Ethan Hejna, Tyler and Nathan Flatau, Hayden and Abigail Rehrmann.
