Joseph "Mertazz" Matassa, age 90, of Joppa, Maryland passed away on March 24, 2023 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of Anunzio and Sarah (Raynor) Matassa and husband of the late Regina (Eurice) Matassa. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served his country during the Korean War. For 29 years, Joseph worked at APG Edgewood Area as a Draftsman, retiring in 1993. He was a long time member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and loved fishing, crabbing, watching the Baltimore Colts play football and Orioles baseball.
Joseph is survived by his sons, Joseph Matassa and his wife, Leslie and Mark Nunzio Matassa and his wife, Stacy; daughters, Christine Maria Abler and her husband, Donald and Dianna Sara Miller and her companion, Francis; grandchildren, Michael Starchak, Matthew Starchak, Ashley Yost, David Miller, Mark Matassa, Jessica Hall, Joshua Matassa, Danielle Kuczarski and Joseph Matassa; great grandchildren, Aubree Miller, Samuel and Henry Starchak, Avery Yost, Anna Miller and Finley Hall; and fiancée, Mary Wyatt.
