JOSEPH KOZUB, age 84, of Abingdon, died at Mariner Health of Forest Hill on March 1, 2003. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna Stech Kozub. He retired from Edgewood Arsenal where he worked as an engineering technician in the Directorate of Development and Engineering. He started his civil servant career at the Arsenal in 1949 in Technical Command’s munitions division. During his career he was associated with almost all of the chemical agents developed or considered for development. He graduated from St. Stephen’s High School in Bradshaw in 1938. About this time his prime interest was flying and in 1940 he earned a private pilot’s license. With the advent of WW II, he joined the Navy V-5 program and attended both University of Virginia and Iowa University. He was commissioned an ensign in 1944 and served as a pilot on carrier flight duty in both the European and the Pacific Theaters of operation. He was separated from service in 1946. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
Mr. Kozub is survived by his wife, Rita Pauline Martin Kozub; one brother, Michael J. Kozub of Abingdon; one sister, Marie K. V. Herold of Abingdon; a niece, June V. Cantwell of Mendham, New Jersey; and one nephew, George M. Herold of Mason City, Illinois.
