JOSEPH FREDERICK LOCHARY, formerly of Baltimore, born June 1, 1943, died January 19, 2008. Formerly of Baltimore, MD, he spent the majority of his adult years in Baton Rouge, LA working for Dow Chemical. Fred received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Johns Hopkins in Baltimore then proceeded with graduate work at the University of Indiana. While there, he was approached by Dow Chemical and hired as a chemist in the 1960's. He is noted for his work on alkanolamines from olefin oxides and ammonia. He loved Louisiana for it's music, food, fishing, and year round gardening opportunities. He was a history buff and master gardener. He loved working for the Rural Life Museum on the campus of LSU and since his retirement was there everyday. He first became a docent at the museum and then restored and maintained the herb and vegetable garden, which contains plants that were used by settlers prior to the 1850's. Every summer, Fred returned to this area to visit friends and relatives. He often stayed with the Boggs' and enjoyed Aunt Judy's cooking.
Mr. Lochary is survived by his uncle and aunt, Bart and Mary Lochary of Baltimore, MD, and his aunt, Judy Boggs of Bel Air, MD; and 13 first cousins throughtout Baltimore and Harford counties. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Thomas and Mary Margaret Lick Lochary.
