Fallston

Joseph Ignatius Cassilly, age 74, of Harford County, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on January 17, 2025. Born in Belcamp, Maryland, he was the beloved son of Nancy (Webster) Cassilly and the late Robert Rogers Cassilly, Jr.

A proud patriot, Joseph served his country honorably as a U.S. Army Ranger during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and Purple Heart. His dedication to service continued long after his military career; in 2011, he was awarded DAV's Outstanding Disabled Veteran of the Year for his contributions and resilience.

Joe spent most of his professional life as the Harford County State's Attorney, earning a reputation as a passionate and fair advocate for justice. Beyond his career, he found joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren, boating, and service to the veteran community. Joe was also a published author and a devoted member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church.

Joseph is survived by his devoted wife of 29 years, Diana Susan Cassilly; his daughters, Rebecca Rossello Lane (Matthew Lane) and Hannah Cassilly (Benjamin Lucas); his sons, Justin Patrick Rossello (Monica Rossello), Jed Cassilly (Christina Cassilly), and Luke Cassilly. He is the proud grandfather of Ana and Nicholas Lane; Thomas, Genevieve, Peter, and Natalie Cassilly; Vivian and Saylor Rossello; and Eli and Freya Lucas.

He is also survived by his siblings, Jane Cassilly Knapp (Thomas Knapp), Mary E. Cassilly, Ann Cassilly Lyons (Don Lyons), Martha Cassilly Parkman (Henry Parkman), Robert G. Cassilly (Deborah Cassilly), Lucy Cassilly Godfrey (Peter Godfrey), Veronica Cassilly (Carey Marzicola), Andrew Cassilly (Amy Cassilly), and Ruth Cassilly. Joseph leaves behind 28 nieces and nephews, as well as 24 grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

In addition to his father, Joseph was preceded in death by his sister, Sara Rebecca Cassilly Borland.
