Joseph Anthony Gonzalez, age 73, of Bel Air, MD, formerly of Shalimar, FL, died on January 11, 2009 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph Pilar and Josephine Angela Grecco Gonzalez and husband of the late Helen C. Gonzalez. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served our country in the Korean and Vietnam wars and retired after 29 years of service. Later in life he was employed as a writer and later was the sports editor for the Northwest Florida Daily News. He wrote a novel named Emerald Coast Emerald Eyes and taught writing and criminology at the local community college. An avid Notre Dame Football fan, he enjoyed sports.
Mr. Gonzalez is survived by sons, Jason W. Gonzalez of Roseville, MN and Joseph A. Gonzalez Jr. of Bakersfield CA; brothers, Manny Gunne of Salt Lake City, UT, John Gonzalez, Rudie Gonzalez and V. Rocky Gonzalez all of Churchville, MD; sisters, Teresa Caviston of Cambridge, MD, Ann Kulick of Mansfield, PA and Rose Gonzalez of Bel Air, MD; and two grandchildren, Jeremy and Jacob Gonzalez of Bakersfield, CA.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Patrick Gonzalez.
