Johnnie Manuel Albizo, age 84, of Silver Spring, Maryland, formerly of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on January 2, 2019 at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center in Olney, Maryland. Born in McAlester, Oklahoma, he was the son of Matilde and Cipriana (Romero) Albizo.
Mr. Albizo held a Masters degree in Biochemistry from George Washington University. He worked for more than 30 years as a civilian research chemist for the Department of the Army, where he did groundbreaking research in microbiology and nerve agent detection.
He played college basketball and also coached youth baseball and basketball for many years. He was also a consultant and assistant to the basketball programs at Towson University and Morgan State University.
Mr. Albizo is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his children, Joel and his wife, Victoria; Noel and his wife, Lynn; and Juliet and her husband, Craig; sister, Roseanna Powell, and grandchildren, Nicolas, Monica, Julian, Tyler, Nathaniel, and Adam.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Albizo.
