John William Carroll Sr., age 86, of White Marsh, MD, died on January 27, 2010 at Franklin Square Hospital. Born in White Marsh, MD he was the son of the late William Edward and Lula May Alder Carroll and husband, of 41 years, to the late Edith Blye Wiles Carroll. A veteran, he served our country in the U.S. Army/Airforce and worked as a train engineer for the B&O and Chessie Railroads. He was the chairman of his debate club, a fireman with the Cowenton Volunteer Fire Department, train memorabilia collector and avid Baltimore sports fan of the Baltimore Colts, Orioles, Ravens and Maryland Terps. He loved playing cards, bird and wildlife watching, old movies, country music, camping, traveling, gardening, going out to dinner and his beagle Molly.
Mr. Carroll is survived by his son, Gregory Wiles Carroll and his wife, Sonja of Huntington, MD; daughter, Lois Powers and her husband, Dennis of Atkinson, NH; Sister, Ann Pleines of MD; grandchildren, Emily Nahlik of MA, Brendan Powers of NH, Teak Kanman of Thailand, Brian Powers of NH, Adrienne Carroll of MD, Zachary and Samuel Carroll of Thailand; great-grandchildren, Anna, Coleman and Garrett Nahlik, all of MA; sister-in-law, Leva Pinzuti, and her children, Dawn Hamilton, Patricia and Linda Pinzuti, all of MD, Butch Pinzuti of MD and Tony Pinzuti of PA; great niece Amy Hamilton of MD; and many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his son, John William Carroll Jr.
