John Wesley Jones Jr., age 63, of Bel Air, MD passed away on December 3, 2012 at his home. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late John W. Jones Sr. and Emma A. Jones. John spent his younger years in bridge construction, working at Bethlehem Steel, and traveling the world with the Merchant Marines, where he deepened his love of the sea. John went on to devote himself as a teacher and coach for Harford County Public Schools, where he retired in 2008 after 31 years teaching and 3 years as president of the teacher's union. In addition to being an avid beekeeper, fisherman, and outdoorsman, John enjoyed staying politically active in the community that he loved as well as participating in the Deer Creek Watershed Association. First and foremost John was a true family man who took tremendous pride in the accomplishments of his children. His eyes would light up talking about Rachel's lacrosse games and future in physical therapy or Derek's world travels and endeavors in medical school. Patty, his wife of 33 years, was his constant companion and best friend from their first cross-country motorcycle trip, to their many fishing trips, parties, family gatherings, extensive travels, adventures, and trips around the dance floor. John had the gift of making friends feel like family, family feel like friends, and his home a place of love where everyone was welcome.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Patricia V. Jones; son, Derek H. Jones; daughter, Rachel A. (Jones) Slusher; sister, Elizabeth A. Jones; nephew, Matthew C. Jones; and countless other nieces, nephews, and extended family.
