JOHN W. SCOTT, SR., age 80, of Aberdeen, died at his residence on October 8, 2003. Born in Darlington, he was the son of the late William Hopkins and Martha Spalding Scott, and the husband of the late Kathryn Bowman Scott. He retired after 28 years from Aberdeen Proving Ground where he was in charge of maintenance. He owned and operated his own trucking company, John W. Scott, Inc. for 10 years; worked for Richard Crouse Construction; Earle E. Preston, Inc. for 25 years; and Moxley Welding Supplies. He retired from the teamsters union. He worked on antique trucks and enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II.
Mr. Scott is survived by one son, John W. Scott, Jr. of Bel Air; one daughter, Dawn S. Buettner of Street; two sisters, Blanche Jourdan of Darlington; Anne Kelly of Darlington; six grandchildren, Jeremy W. Scott; Joshua D. Scott; Jordan R. Scott; Jamilyn M. Scott, all of Bel Air; Courtney K. Buettner; and Lindsey R. Buettner both of Street. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be: Jeremy W. Scott, Joshua D. Scott, Jordan R. Scott, Steve Kolackousky; Gregory Connors, Roy “Butch” Moxley, and Paul Lawder. Honorary pallbearers will be: Roy Moxley, Sr., Charles Bowman, Clarence Boyle, D. Hood Bowman, Eugene Todd, Francis Ruppel, and John F. Ruppel.
