John “Tip” A. Tipton, age 90, of Abingdon, MD passed away November 16, 2017 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Erwin, TN, he was the son of Alvin and Bessie (Dillinger) Tipton. He served his country in the U.S. Merchant Marine and the U.S. Army during WWII. Nationwide Insurance Co. was his employer for 32 years. He was a member of Bush River Yacht Club, Elks Club and the American Legion. Tip enjoyed his family, boating, fishing and golfing. One of his great joys was watching his children and grandchildren play sports.
Tip is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth Henry Tipton; three sons, Kasey (Michelle) Tipton of Manchester, TN, Kelly Tipton of Joppatowne and Kyle (Mona) Tipton of Hanover, PA; two daughters, Kris Tipton of Lakeland, FL and Kara (Richard) Chizmar of Abingdon; sister Mary (Clyde) Maybee of Clayton, NC; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Young, John Tipton, Tiffany Tipton, Cody Tipton, Troy Tipton, Chad Tipton, Billy Chizmar, Noah Chizmar and three great grandchildren, Hunter, McKenzie and Spencer.
In addition to his parents, his sisters, Thelma Cowher and Kathleen McNabb, preceded him in death.
