John Wiley Smith, age 84, of Street, Maryland, passed away on May 31, 2024, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Perry Hall, Maryland, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Mae (Collum) Smith and the beloved husband of 64 years to Sheba (Cleary) Smith.
John had a deep love for the outdoors, spending countless hours in his garden, hunting, and fishing. He was a skilled carpenter, delighting in creating various wooden items. His passion for metal detecting, attending yard sales, and caring for his tractors and mowers brought him much joy. In the fall, he cherished apple picking, savoring Maryland steamed crabs, and indulging in sour beef and dumplings.
Professionally, John dedicated over 30 years of service to the State of Maryland Highway Administration. His work ethic and commitment to his job were admired by all who knew him.
John is survived by his loving wife, Sheba (Cleary) Smith, son, John W. (Terry) Smith Jr.; grandson, Michael L. (Jenn) Smith; granddaughter, Connie Edwards; great-granddaughter, Cheyene Doran; great-grandson, Dylan Smith; step-granddaughter, Aleysha Armstrong; step-grandson, Jacob Armstrong; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Donna, Nancy, and Louann; and nephew, Michael.
In addition to his parents, was preceded in death by his daughters, Sharon Smith, and Linda Smith; brothers, Cecil Smith and Benjamin Smith; sister, Edith Struhs; grandson, William Edwards III; and step-granddaughter, Shayna Armstrong.

John's love for his family, friends, and community will be deeply missed. His memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
